Camping and Shelter fee increased at the Yellow Smoke Park east of Denison on highway and the Nelson Park that are located four miles towards northwest of Dow City starting from 2013.
Camping fees is now raised from $16 to $18 per night in both parks for their electric sites, by the Crawford County Conservation Board in a recent meeting. In addition to this the Nelson Park has raised on their Non-electric sites from $12 to $15.
There is no booking or reservation system here in camping. It is on first come, first serve basis.
The lookout enclosed shelters at Yellow Smoke Park were increased from $100 to $110 and for open shelter it is increased from $35 to $40.
However, the rental fees for the Yellow Smoke Park cabins have not been altered and remain at $60 which is inclusive of a $3 excise tax. Campers can book the shelters and the cabins before 12 months by placing a call to the office at the Crawford County Courthouse conservation board.
At Yellow Smoke Park and Nelson Park, the Open shelters can be used on a first come, first serve basis when they are not reserved. The Lookout shelter can be availed only by reservation.
At Yellow Smoke Park and Nelson Park, the increase in camping fees fetches with approximately $14,000 and $3,500 more revenue, increasing the annual total to $125,507 and $28,445 respectively.
The reason for increasing the costs is for the maintenance of parks as costs are increasing day by day and helps offset the tax in the budget for the maintenance of parks.
