The Planning Commission of the Conneaut city has preliminarily approved a zoning change request for creating a new campground at Conneaut’s Center Road. The request has been forwarded to the City Council for further review.
The address for the proposed new campground is 627 Center Road, just near to the Gateway Avenue. It falls a few hundred yards away from the entrance to another campground in the area, the Evergreen Lake Park.
Coxon Investment LLC has applied to the zoning request whose manager Gary Coxon has stated that they were in the initial stages of planning for a new campground in the area.
The applicant, who seeks to rezone about 50 acres from the 60-acre area from business to open space, has further requested to rezone the area into a place ideal for recreation while the 300 to 400-foot strip along the Center remains as a space for business. The city documents list the property as vacant farm land in the documents currently.
Coxon further said that tourism development is the best thing to attract people to the city and the farm land, which already has some utilities including the sewers, is the only thing that gives them a chance.
